I thought I had, but apparently not?<\/p>\n<p>Which is probably a good thing, because a broad spectrum of what genres I read wouldn&#8217;t actually cover what I like about the genres. So instead, you get me breaking down the genres &#8211; like I&#8217;ve already done with <a href=\"http:\/\/araopenpages.com\/?tag=the-fairytale-retelling-edition\">the fairytale<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/araopenpages.com\/?p=1877\">retelling editions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2231 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/araopenpages.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/instant-to-read.jpg\" alt=\"instant to read\" width=\"500\" height=\"245\" srcset=\"http:\/\/araopenpages.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/instant-to-read.jpg 500w, http:\/\/araopenpages.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/instant-to-read-300x147.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Romance is something I read when I need something a little lighter? I mean, of course, angst is well and good when it comes to romance, but in the end, it&#8217;s always a happily ever after, and sometimes I need that.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve written a lot about <a href=\"http:\/\/araopenpages.com\/?p=2809\">tropes that I love<\/a>. I mean, <a href=\"http:\/\/araopenpages.com\/?p=1564\">I have three posts<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/araopenpages.com\/?p=1558\">they overlap tropes<\/a>, so I&#8217;m going to try not to repeat them here. But I may, because I love these tropes in romantic fiction a lot.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2954 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/araopenpages.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/follow-your-heart.jpg\" alt=\"follow your heart\" width=\"540\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"http:\/\/araopenpages.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/follow-your-heart.jpg 540w, http:\/\/araopenpages.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/follow-your-heart-300x278.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Slow burn romances, anyone? I mean, is there anything more delicious than reading about two characters fall slowly in love, with maybe a little angst and miscommunication thrown in? I&#8217;ve probably read so many fanfictions on this front, especially if we add in the next trope.<\/li>\n<li>Add in some mutual pining &#8211; and oblivious characters to the fact that the pining is <em><strong>mutual<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; and I am sold. The equal part agony of the characters and wanting to smack them over the head as a reader to tell them that their feelings are requited is one of the best feelings in the world. At least, to me.<\/li>\n<li>Most romance tropes work well layered together, so take the above two and add in either &#8211; fake dating, marriage of convenience, OR a comedy of errors whereby everyone is plotting to get our two oblivious protagonists together. I think I just described <em>Much Ado About Nothing<\/em>, but that is a GREAT BASIS for adaption.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2955 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/araopenpages.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/8-love.jpg\" alt=\"8 - love\" width=\"540\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"http:\/\/araopenpages.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/8-love.jpg 540w, http:\/\/araopenpages.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/8-love-300x278.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If we move away from tropes and go to writing style, things I look out for and adore simply add up to witty banter&#8230;<\/li>\n<li>&#8230;and mutual respect. Power imbalances can be a thing in stories but I definitely prefer less of those and more of an equal ground between love interests. Sure, give me <em>perceived<\/em> imbalances, and a lot of snark.
