But it&#8217;s true. There&#8217;s just something magical about the same story being told in so many different ways.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes it is a hit, and sometimes not so much.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2396 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/araopenpages.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/handle-with-care.jpg\" alt=\"handle with care\" width=\"500\" height=\"245\" srcset=\"https:\/\/araopenpages.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/handle-with-care.jpg 500w, https:\/\/araopenpages.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/handle-with-care-300x147.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It can be the writing, sometimes, that does not excite me. But sometimes it&#8217;s the fact that the original tale hit a mark these retellings did not.<\/p>\n<p>Not to say I won&#8217;t read them. I am a simple woman with simple desires and fairytales are always welcome. It&#8217;s just more likely that I will find a copy I can borrow at a library for these tales.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2545 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/araopenpages.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/masks.jpg\" alt=\"masks\" width=\"540\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/araopenpages.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/masks.jpg 540w, https:\/\/araopenpages.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/masks-300x278.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I suppose it can be difficult to do a re-telling of <em>Sleeping Beauty<\/em> unless you do it from someone else&#8217;s point of view. Which might be why I&#8217;ve only seen a handful of these over the years. But I&#8217;ve always enjoyed the Disney movie and I hope one day to find a retelling of this story that I love as much.<br \/>\n<em>Spindle&#8217;s End<\/em> by Robin Mckinley is one I remember reading ages ago that I quite enjoyed. <em>Briar Rose<\/em> by Jana Oliver was a little more disappointing.<\/li>\n<li>People either love or hate <em>Beauty And The Beast<\/em>. Belle as a character has always been relatable to me &#8211; I, too, would walk around with my nose buried in a book. It got to a point where I managed to trip up a flight of stairs because I <em>didn&#8217;t<\/em> have a book on me. Surprisingly though, I haven&#8217;t come across a retelling I have actually enjoyed for this tale as old as time.<br \/>\nPeople rave about Rosamund Hodge&#8217;s <em>Cruel Beauty<\/em>, but I could not finish it. Maybe someday I will go back to it.<\/li>\n<li><em>Little Red Riding Hood<\/em> can be a little more difficult to adapt. If you&#8217;re not careful, it can be cliche and trite, and yet somehow, I&#8217;ve read two versions of this that I&#8217;ve enjoyed.
