Or maybe I just never found one I enjoyed. And then while we were in Auckland, the husband and I had a hankering for burgers and I found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skinnytaste.com\/the-best-grilled-portobello-mushroom\/\">this recipe<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, I couldn&#8217;t find everything in that recipe at the shops, so I adapted. As I do.<\/p>\n<p>And it was yum. I&#8217;ve used this marinade a couple of times for mushrooms without the bread, and it&#8217;s just as yum.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2564 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/araopenpages.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/portobello-mushroom-burger.jpg\" alt=\"portobello mushroom burger\" width=\"520\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/araopenpages.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/portobello-mushroom-burger.jpg 520w, https:\/\/araopenpages.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/portobello-mushroom-burger-300x288.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 520px) 100vw, 520px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve made this with both white and apple cider vinegar, and there&#8217;s a very small difference in taste. We tend to use a lot of apple cider vinegar at home because it&#8217;s the mildest, but you can definitely substitute it for something else, but just taste-test as you do!<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Portobello Mushroom Burgers<\/h2>\n<h4><em>Ingredients<\/em><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>4 portobello mushrooms<\/li>\n<li>4 burger buns<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 avacado<\/li>\n<li>1 tomato<\/li>\n<li>butter<\/li>\n<li>condiments; to taste<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>marinade;<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2 tbsp white vinegar<\/li>\n<li>1 tbsp light soya sauce<\/li>\n<li>1 tbsp vegetable oil (or olive oil)<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 tbsp oregano<\/li>\n<li>1\/4 tbsp basil<\/li>\n<li>1\/4 tbsp barbecue sauce<\/li>\n<li>salt &amp; pepper; to taste<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2565 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/araopenpages.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/portobello-mushroom-burger2.jpg\" alt=\"portobello mushroom burger2\" width=\"520\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/araopenpages.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/portobello-mushroom-burger2.jpg 520w, https:\/\/araopenpages.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/portobello-mushroom-burger2-300x288.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 520px) 100vw, 520px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4><em>Method<\/em><\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>mix together the vinegar, soya sauce, oil, oregano, basil, barbecue sauce, salt &amp; pepper in a small bowl.<\/li>\n<li>remove the stems from mushrooms.<\/li>\n<li>place the mushrooms in shallow bowl and pour the marinade mixture over.<\/li>\n<li>leave to sit for 15 to 20 minutes, turning once and coating the other side with mixture.<\/li>\n<li>place in a tray to grill, making sure to brush marinade mixture over.<\/li>\n<li>grill in the oven for 10 minutes, flipping once.<\/li>\n<li>put some cheese on top about 2 minutes before taking out of the oven.<\/li>\n<li>in the meantime, cut the buns in half and preheat in oven.<\/li>\n<li>place the avocado slices and tomato slices on bun.<\/li>\n<li>add your toppings as to your taste.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2566 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/araopenpages.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/portobello-mushroom-burger3.jpg\" alt=\"portobello mushroom burger3\" width=\"520\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/araopenpages.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/portobello-mushroom-burger3.jpg 520w, https:\/\/araopenpages.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/portobello-mushroom-burger3-300x288.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 520px) 100vw, 520px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sometimes I brush the marinade mixture onto the bread as well for extra taste. You can even use it as a salad dressing!
