;five tv shows that should not have been cancelled

bookworm things

I watch a lot of TV shows. I don’t keep up with all of them, I will admit freely, but I start a lot of TV shows.

And somehow, the ones I love the most get cancelled before a satisfactory resolution.

It is a painful thing as a passionate TV fan to see happen. I am still not over the 24 hours where Brooklyn Nine Nine – my current favourite airing TV show – got cancelled.

five tv shows that should not have been cancelled

This blog post was partially inspired by Cora @ Tea Party Princess’ Five TV Shows I Watch On Repeat. I thought it was ingenius, really, to marry my love for TV with my love for books on my blog, especially since I already blog about food and writing as well!

In no particular order, here are the five TV shows I wish had never gotten cancelled.

  • Emerald City. A different take on the Wizard of Oz that I am currently watching, I was gutted to hear that there is only one season! It got cancelled without some answers being given, and I am really sad, because not only is it a darker and more sinister take, it is also quite diverse in casting choices?
  • Common Law. Back when this was airing, I loved it. It was a cop show, sure, and I will admit that I enjoy case-based stories, but it also had a really rich cast. I honestly thought it would have done better, but it didn’t, and sometimes I still get sad about that.
  • The Librarians. This is a more recent cancellation, and we were given four seasons, but it wasn’t just a show for me. It was something that brought me closer to one of my friends, and I know it brought her a group of friends that she really adores. Losing this show was painful, because it was magic and found family and just really fun adventures.
  • Galavant. I still get so disappointed when I think about this show being cancelled. It was such a unique genre on it’s own, and it was self-aware and hilarious, and I know some of the cast would probably still be up for more. A musical medieval show. I mean, what?
  • Selfie. Do you have any idea how rare it is to see an Asian as a lead for a romantic comedy? Because it is very rare. And it was John Cho, on top of that. John Cho and Karen Gillan, who are two of my favourite actors, and who had phenomenal chemistry, and who gave me the gem that was John Cho on horseback and “I have grown accustomed to your face” in all it’s technicolour glory. I would kill for a full-length movie with these two in these roles.

30 - once upon

I have a few honourable mentions, because apparently there are a lot of shows I wouldn’t mind being brought back. BBC’s Primeval and the Canadian spin-off Primeval: New World both ended on cliffhangers, and I still want to know what happened next. Still Star-Crossed was a take on ‘after Romeo and Juliet’ that I did not know I needed, and I wish we could have seen the slowburn enemies to reluctant allies to grudging respect to friends to lovers that was blooming there. And Leverage may have had five seasons and ended on a good note, but it is my favourite TV show and it could go on for ten more seasons and it still would not be enough for me.

What TV shows would you do anything to bring back? Anything you wish got just a few more episodes so that you could get a satisfactory ending?
