blogging break 2021

It is September 2021. You look around you and you realise more than half the year has passed by and you’ve posted one review, completed one book, and been struggling to keep your head afloat while the world struggles around you as well. You started this post in July.

I think the first I realised that this was okay was when I read Kate’s blog post How To Overcome Blogging Fatigue. Having a name for what I was feeling made me take a step back and realise, hey, it’s okay to feel burned out despite not having actually done much. The situation we are facing now is mentally and emotionally draining, and we are allowed to feel the strain. And when we do decide that we’re ready to venture back, here we have someone willing to make this post to help us.

Life has been strange for the past two years. I think everyone can agree with that. If this is to be a new normal, something is going to give unless I change things up again. I do not have the mental fortitude to keep to an update schedule on my platforms. If you’ve been following me, I’m sure you have noticed.

But things that have me excited so far in 2021 are also plentiful. Looking at the bright side, looking at the positives, have helped me find a spark of creativity again. This soft rebrand will help me manage my interests and my writing a little better, and I hope you stick around even as I venture out of writing just about books.

Things to look forward to in the last quarter of 2021/2022:

  • Editing up and posting original short stories.
  • Learning to knit.
  • Working on a few art pieces.
  • Hopefully meeting people in person outside of my doctors.
  • Baby’s first birthday in January 2022!

My Ko-fi is going to be a bit more active as I move into a tiered platform and start posting poetry and stories on there. I’m excited and a little bit nervous about all these new things I’m hoping to do, but also reminding myself that I do not need to take on unnecessary stress.

Be kind to yourself, everyone. I know I’m trying.

I’m Ara, a Southeast Asian writer who someday hopes to have published a novel, and who is currently losing herself in the worlds created by others. I love books and food and television and blogging and I get distracted and sidetracked easily.

I had to take a bit of a blogging break for this exact reason, although it hasn’t been as long as I thought it would be. With everything there is only so much we can take and sometimes something has to give so we can let ourselves heal as much as we can.

I hope you have a lot of fun learning how to knit. It can be overwhelming to begin with as there is a lot to take in but once you’re past all that, it’s addictive! Saying that I crochet more than knit. I could do with picking mine back up otherwise it will languish in a corner and never get finished!
