Tales From A Tiny Room
by Wayne Ree
What happens when two gods sit on a park bench and compare universes? Why does a reporter’s world fall to pieces after he meets someone who can fly? What’s the secret of the man who changes with every city he’s in? Eleven short prose pieces taking you from the everyday to the extraordinary. These are the Tales From A Tiny Room.
Review:
I must admit I have hardly ever read novels by Singaporean authors, despite being Singaporean and an aspiring author myself. It is a shame, really, because this series of short stories proves that we can write – and write well.
I received the novel as a present from my best friend, who met the author at a convention in Singapore and got it autographed for me.
(Squee!)
Full of contemporary pop culture references and a pretty morbid stance on life, the author has written effectively disturbing and fascinating stories in just a few pages. There can be a very Asian slant of things in the stories, and that just makes it more palatable to me.
I would recommend this even to non-Singaporeans, because it is really interesting – and could spark some pretty good plot bunnies.
