;an incomprehensive list of badass fictional mothers

It is almost Mother’s Day here in Malaysia, and I figured I’d make a list – I keep making lists!* – of fictional Moms that are awesome!
*Lists are so easy to do and so much fun, but is anybody getting tired of them because maybe I should stop…
So, as the title suggests, this is NOT A COMPLETE LIST because I’m definitely going to wind up forgetting someone and people might definitely not agree, and I might run out of Moms to gush about.

Oh, who am I kidding, with the ‘absent parents’ trend in YA, I might definitely run out of Moms to talk about, but I refuse to veer into other mediums because then I won’t stop talking.
I love reading about good Moms, you guys, and being a Mom has just made me appreciate my own more? (Hi Mom, I hope you actually read this when I send you the link.)

- Lily Potter
THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE. I mean, it’s completely sad, her story, but still, she loved her son so much, her death protected him? I AM HEARTBROKEN AND AT THE SAME TIME IN AWE. - Molly Weasley
Sometimes her overbearingness is grating, but most of the time I just adore her. She kind of reminds me of some of my extended family. “Not my daughter, you bitch!” indeed. - Maura Sargent
I love her and the rather irreverent way she raised Blue. Even though I haven’t finished the series, I think she will always deserve to be on this. She is just plain awesome. - Alanna the Lioness
From what I remember of the original series, Alanna was a badass, and I doubt becoming a mother would have changed that. I will admit, I haven’t read the series with her daughter as the protagonist. I will eventually, if only to remind myself how much I love Alanna, lady knight.

- Cimorene
THE PRINCESS SAVES HERSELF AND THEN NABS HERSELF A KING WITHOUT TRYING AND THEN BECOMES A MOTHER AND DRAGONS ARE HER BEST FRIENDS AND I LOVE HER. She was the Ideal Protagonist when I first read the series. Her relationship with her son in the fourth book was the Best. - Jocelyn Fray
I never finished the series, but come on, she was a badass Shadowhunter. She stayed pretty badass throughout the series even if she wasn’t front and center. She kicked ass and took names. - Esme Cullen
I may not enjoy the Twilight series, but Esme was Mom Goals. Honestly wouldn’t have minded her story being more prominent. 10/10 would take Mom lessons from her.

Someone mentioned Starr’s mom in THUG when I asked for more YA Moms on Twitter, but as I haven’t read the book (I know, boo me), I couldn’t bring myself to include her in my list. But what do you think? Would she be on your list?
To all Moms out there, fictional and otherwise, Happy Mother’s Day!
