;my favourite christmas movies
It’s Christmas! I may not celebrate it personally, but I love parts of the holiday. Mostly the presents but also some of the movies. But mostly the presents. More information and the full #Project14Lists can be found here. There are a few Christmas movies that I do love, however, and wouldn’t mind rewatching every year. I’ve got to see if I can find them so I can watch them with the daughter this year… The Santa Claus. Look, this was a staple in the house when it came out because Tim Allen, and it was funny and wholesome, and I still cannot get over the fact that David Krumholtz was…

;five books I recommended to everyone this year
It’s a little bit weird for me, to be posting things on the blog back to back. I’m more of a once a week person, it’s much easier on my mental health. I’ll be going back to that in January, unless Shealea or some other awesome person comes up with another thing I can take part with. More information and the full #Project14Lists can be found here. As most people in my life know, I will talk about books to everyone. I say ‘to’ instead of ‘with’ because most of the people in my life just indulge me but aren’t actually as in love with books as I am. Thankfully,…

SPOTLIGHT; #Project14Lists
We interrupt our regular schedule to bring you this post. Well, technically, my regular schedule for the month was just going to be a wrap-up post for the year. Which I’ll still be doing at the very end of the year. But also a few days ago I finally had a chance to sit and read Shealea @ That Bookshelf Bitch‘s blogging anniversary post and found out about #Project14Lists. The fact that I had not heard about it before confused me, at first, before I remembered I’ve been very inactive on social media. And as much as I love to try to stay on top of things, I fall behind.…

instant to-read; the greek mythology edition
I think that I’ve only read maybe two things that are explicitly inspired by Greek mythology. Maybe a few more that take things from the myths, but honestly these myths have become so wide-spread that possibly a lot of things have some inspiration from them? Still, if we’re talking reimaginings and re-tellings, there are a few myths I would love to see more things of*. But also, less movies retreading on these myths unless it’s 100% more diverse, thanks Hollywood. *I don’t know so much about Greek mythology outside of a few things, but based on my loose understanding, these are what I would like more of. The Trojan War…

;press play (and lets write)
One of the first few posts I planned when I started blogging was Press Play, a post about music and creating playlists in relation to books. This was, oh, sometime last year, and in turned into a post asking for websites I could use to post my playlists on. Today, I give you part 2 of that post, this time with regards to writing. It is NaNoWriMo, after all, and even if I’ve fallen WAY behind on my word count, I can still talk about making playlists for my projects, right? Right. As mentioned in my last blog post, I am attempting to work on four projects. From these four,…

;my nanowrimo goals
For the past few years, I’ve tried to take part in NaNoWriMo. I’ve never completed the challenge of writing 50,000 words in a month – not even come close, if I’m honest – but it does encourage me to actually sit down and write. Whether I’m writing blog posts like these, or working on abandoned fanfictions, at least I’m writing. And in the end, for me, that’s a win for NaNoWriMo. I realised after the first year I took part in NaNoWriMo that working on one project frustrates me. After I write it for a while, I start getting stuck, I start spiralling, and I stop writing. So since then,…

;13 literary characters that would be fun to dress up as for Halloween
It’s Halloween! This might have been a better post for earlier in the month, or use it as ideas for next year. But I figured, why not post it anyway! I used to go trick-or-treating as a kid, even though it’s not a huge thing in Singapore. Luckily for us though, we were a whole bunch of relatives living close to one another, and my uncle celebrates his birthday on Halloween, and he loved having everyone end the celebration at his place with a small party. It also happens to be my mother-in-law’s birthday, so I’m dressing up my daughter as Boo from Monsters’ Inc and we’re going to take…

handle with care; the austen edition
There are some Austen novels I haven’t seen adaptations of, or even straight to screen adaptations, because for some reason, the story does not catch me. And then there are some, I might not have read or watched, or know much about that I read crossover fanfiction for. Yes, I do read Austen fanfiction. Mostly centered on Mary Bennet, or based on the wesberies adaptations I’ve watched. We have established I am a nerd, yes? Emma is a fun story, in so far as I know it. I haven’t read the source material, but I have enjoyed Clueless tremendously and Emma Approved was also fun. (And apparently it’s coming back…

;how to make a TBR jar ft. I don’t remember the books I own
My TBR list is long and unmanageable and ever-growing. I know this is a problem most of us bookworms face, and no, I am not going to teach you how to manage your TBR. Because I don’t know how. (If someone can teach me, that’d be great. Thanks.) Instead, I’ve been recently thinking about making TBR jars. But the thing is, I don’t remember half my TBR list, and I definitely don’t remember the titles of the books I own off-hand. So you get something like this instead. In my last Open Pages box, I added in a itty-bitty little TBR jar. Found the jars at the local dollar shop…

;series i haven’t finished (and don’t know why)
Hi, hello, and welcome to today’s edition of “Ara, What Are You Doing With Your Life And All Those Books.” Today, we will be talking about the book series I own and adore, and for some strange unquantifiable reason, have yet to complete! No, I’m serious. I don’t even know why I haven’t finished these series yet. I enjoy them, I want to finish them, I just haven’t yet? Someone help me? Part of me thinks that I haven’t finished these series’ yet because if I do, then that means they are actually over… Let us start with one that everyone has read and loved, and I scoured for the…
