Can you believe we’re in November? And last month’s prompt was a little more – shall we say, sad? A little more final and yet the offerings from my fellow writers still manage to highlight the goodness and kindness and empathy people show if only they choose to. (Yes, I said offerings. We have more than one this past month!) The prompt itself was suggested by L’poni, and I definitely had fun adapting a (rejected) submission offering into my story. I hope you enjoy them all. NEWSLETTER SNIPPETS; Issue #5

Three quarters into the year and writing blog post intros can still trip me up. I suppose because I don’t want to just rehash the newsletter snippets that will come after this? Ah well, I’ll let them do the talking. You can sign up here! There’s something about the second half of the year that’s just – busy and quick in so many ways. These past few months have seen some travel – I finally went to visit my parents! I also came down with such bad food poisoning two days in that I was hospitalised, but that’s not important. Then there were TWO weddings within the span of a…

It’s officially more than two years since we started these prompts. It’s allowed me to try so many new genres and styles of storytelling across a span of so many different sorts of prompts. This month’s prompt was set by Ash and I’ll be honest, I almost went for something extremely tragic based on my religious history. I’ve been doing a bit of reading and learning again on the history of my ancestors and the prompt is perfect for that. While the story I ultimately wrote is still inspired by history, it’s not that first tragic story I thought of. (Maybe someday I’ll be able to write that without crying…

This month’s prompt was not actually a prompt but actually a joke by Morris. Honestly though, it worked as a writing prompt, and it proved to be a fun one. We were all complaining about aging, after all – I think all of us have been writing for a long time, and it’s showing! – and the prompt felt apt. I had a lot of fun with what I ultimately came up with, and I hope you enjoy it too! INDEX:Aradhna Kaur (me!) – The Blessed Aches Of Aging As per usual, any prompt fills going up after today will be added in to the post later! If you like…

I recently started playing FFXIV so when Lou suggested the prompt for this month, it didn’t take me very long before I decided what my story was going to be – a sort of pre-canon of why my player character decided to set out from home to the main cities in the first place, but also just fleshing out her family a little bit. I had fun writing it, even if it doesn’t hit all the beats of the prompt. Games seems to be the vibe though, and I know I’m not the only one who leaned that way. Do be sure to check our stories out and let us…

    NEWSLETTER SNIPPETS; Issue #4

I’ve written four of these now and it doesn’t seem to be getting any easier. These blog intros, not the newsletters. Those are surprisingly easy, even if I don’t always remember how the entire quarter of the year has passed. This last issue went out with a free short story download and I hope that readers enjoy it. It’s one of my favourite things I’ve written. You can sign up here! My husband and I took our first long childfree vacation in April too. We went to Japan – largely because this year’s Star Wars Celebration was held there and I really wanted to go, but also because his grandmother…

Happy Pride! This month’s prompt was suggested by L’poni, both for both pride and for the new addition to Josh‘s family. Congratulations again, Josh! I don’t know how well I encompassed the feelings I was trying to get across, but you can judge for yourself when you read my short offering and do let me know! AUTHOR AVENGERS; May Round Up

It’s May – or Star Wars month as Josh and L’poni and Morris reminded us in the Author Avengers server – so having a Star Wars-esque prompt seemed like the thing to do. I am a self-proclaimed no.1 Jedi fan, so I took it upon myself to find a quote from Buddha themself (the inspiration behind Jedi philosophies) for this month’s prompt: I leaned heavily into the similarities between the Jedi and Sikhism for this story, and I hope you enjoy it! The underlying message of the prompt for me and for Morris seems to be about hope for the future, even if the now looks bleak, and I think we did it pretty well. INDEX:Morris…

This month’s prompt – or more accurately prompts – was given to us by L’poni Baldwin. The plethora of choices could have been overwhelming, but honestly just made me excited. I’ve saved a few to come back to later. The one I did wind up choosing was, of course, emotional. I do love some good quality angst. Let me know if I did it justice! NEWSLETTER SNIPPETS; Issue #3

The 31st of March saw the third issue of the newsletter – and the first issue of this year – go out. I’ll let the snippets speak for themselves. You can sign up here! These few months have been filled with very high highs – some weddings, a trip we decided to go on last minute with extended family to Cairo and Dubai – and a couple of very low lows – my mother’s oldest brother passed away pretty unexpectedly in early March and barely a week later, our community’s spiritual godmother also unexpectedly passed. The grief comes in ebbs and flows, and it hasn’t really hit, you know? My emotions have therefore…
