;my go-to feel good movies
This month has been A Lot. I have been lax on my social media accounts – both personal and shop accounts – because it’s just been emotional upheaval after emotional upheaval and I’ve been struggling to keep myself from going under. I’m managing, somehow, to keep myself afloat. Which is why I thought it was the perfect time to talk about my favourite movies to watch every time I want to see something that makes me happy. I went through a period where I was watching one of these movies every week, if not every other day. I make a lot of lists, don’t I? In no particular order: The…

handle with care; the shakespeare edition
As much as I enjoy Shakespeare, I have to admit to having seen and heard and read aspects of it that make me shake my head and sigh in disappointment. Shakespeare was a product of his times, and as much as I acknowledge that he was progressive for his time, sometimes that means when you play it straight, it’s regressive for our time. Does that make sense? There are adaptations I’ve seen that could have been a touch better if they had adapted the parts that are now problematic to give more agency to other characters, or to subvert what is in the actual play. Shakespeare would not mind, I’m…

;the things about new adult
Did you know I’ve not been able to find books that would fall under the New Adult classification in bookstores near me? I mean, until about a year ago, I used to think that New Adult books just weren’t there. Now I’ve realised the stories I am writing could probably be more accurately classified as New Adult rather than Young Adult, though there are overlaps. If you look at my bookshelves, despite the fact that I am closer to 30 than 20, most of my books fall under the Young Adult bracket. The stories are diverse and empathic and the characters are well-rounded and three-dimensional, and you can find something…

;five tv shows that should not have been cancelled
I watch a lot of TV shows. I don’t keep up with all of them, I will admit freely, but I start a lot of TV shows. And somehow, the ones I love the most get cancelled before a satisfactory resolution. It is a painful thing as a passionate TV fan to see happen. I am still not over the 24 hours where Brooklyn Nine Nine – my current favourite airing TV show – got cancelled. This blog post was partially inspired by Cora @ Tea Party Princess’ Five TV Shows I Watch On Repeat. I thought it was ingenius, really, to marry my love for TV with my love…

instant to-read; the shakespeare edition
People in my life look at me weird when I say I enjoy Shakespeare. I haven’t read a lot of his plays, but what I have read, I’ve enjoyed. But to most people in my life, that is just Peak Geek and Too Much for them. I embrace the geekiness. Unfortunately, I will admit, I have not read a lot of adaptations. Loose ones, sure. Seen a few screen adaptations as well. And I have some favourites that I will always watch, and will definitely pick up to at the very least flip through. Don’t be surprised if there are a few webseries recommendations in here. There have been some…

;my three favourite book-to-movie adaptations
On-screen adaptations tend to be a hit or miss with people. They either love them or they hate them. Sometimes they hate them before they even see the finished products. Bookworms, after all, tend to be very passionate creatures. We hold books close to our hearts, and if what ends up on screen isn’t what we imagined, well, then, we’re going to talk about it. A lot. I will admit, I tend to be very critical about adaptations. I can and will watch them! But you can bet that I will be nit-picky when I break down what was done right and wrong. I’m no expert, but I have Opinions,…

the bullet journal life; things to love
I took a break from my bullet journal for almost two months, and it was the best thing I could have done for myself. One of the greatest things about bullet journalling, in my opinion, is that you aren’t constrained by fixed pages. You can tailor it for yourself. You can skip a week, or a month, or a year, to try and figure out what works for you and what doesn’t and then you can come back to it. Or not. In the end, it is all up to you. Can it be a lot of pressure? Sure. But that’s why you step away for a little bit. Bullet…

TWISTED TALES || RACEBENT ROMCOMS
I’ve been considering posting this new feature over here for a while, and some time ago, I held a poll on Twitter about whether or not to do so. I got a resounding “Yes!” from the few people who responded so I guess we’re doing this. What is this? Twisted Tales started off as a series of photosets depicting POC fancasts of fairytales that are traditionally cast as not-POC. It started when the casting of Beauty And The Beast was announced, and sort of spiralled from there. I have been posting the photosets on Tumblr for a while now, and have more in the planning stages, and am always taking…

handle with care; the fairytale retelling edition
Every time a fairytale gets reimagined, I get excited. I’ve said that a lot. But it’s true. There’s just something magical about the same story being told in so many different ways. Sometimes it is a hit, and sometimes not so much. It can be the writing, sometimes, that does not excite me. But sometimes it’s the fact that the original tale hit a mark these retellings did not. Not to say I won’t read them. I am a simple woman with simple desires and fairytales are always welcome. It’s just more likely that I will find a copy I can borrow at a library for these tales. I suppose…

;representation matters
When I first started planning this blog post, I thought I’d be able to make a nice header, make it pretty because just because it’s an important message doesn’t mean I can’t make it palatable for people. Right? Except then I wasn’t as fired up as I am not. Then I was thinking of writing about the discussion sparked up by someone’s tweet – I don’t remember who anymore and that’s probably a good thing? – about being tired of princess stories in YA, or chosen one storylines, or something to that effect. It had sparked a response from various awesome bloggers and writers I follow who pointed out that…
