SPOTLIGHT; time to educate yourselves
We interrupt our regular schedule to bring you this post. This is not my usual type of SPOTLIGHT posts. Not even close. But I am tired, you guys. I am so tired. How many times do we – readers of colour – have to remind other readers that you can educate yourselves? How many times do we have to inform you about things you feel entitled to knowing by, what? Reading a book by an author of colour? How many times do we have to point out that authors of colour aren’t there to educate you, but to tell stories? Sometimes those stories include a little bit of the things…

;ten books that have been on my TBR forever
I was trying to think of something that I had not written about before when I found myself on Goodreads. I started wondering why my TBR was so big, and whether I had maybe forgotten to move books about when I had read them, and then I realised that some of these books I don’t remember adding to my TBR. Anyone else have that problem? Anyway, I thought putting the first ten books I added to my TBR – excluding books from the same series’ – would be a fun list to make so here we are! I’m listing the books in the order they were added to Goodreads, from…

the girl behind the book blog; a BLOGVERSARY post
If we are being completely accurate, my blogversary was yesterday! And I had actually planned this post for next week before I realised it was my blogversary this month. Yes, I am very good at what I do, clearly. In my first year of blogging here on WordPress, I had a much slower schedule, and then I disappeared for a while after finding out I was pregnant. Since then, I like to think I’ve gotten a little better? But we’re not here to talk about my blogging habits or my stats (which could be better, but hey, I’ve got a nice community of blogger and writer friends, so what do…

instant to-read; the tropes edition
When I set up this blog, I made a note to myself that I was going to write a post about tropes in books. What exactly that post would be eludes me – my notes are scattered in various notebooks as this was the pre-bujo era – but finally, finally, I am sitting down to write a post on tropes. Because tropes, love them or hate them, exist. Tropes are fun. I tend to lean more towards loving them in some cases. There are certain tropes that I will pick up almost immediately when they are advertised in the blurb of the book. These are the tropes I search for…

;why you might be in a bookstagram slump
If you follow me on bookstagram, you may have noticed that I have not been very active in the last few months. That is because I ran out of photos, and then I lost the motivation to take more! Bookstagram slumps, am I right? Now we all can probably agree that breaks are necessary. But sometimes short hiatus’ turn into longer ones because we start second-guessing ourselves, our photos, our entire existence – so let’s think on why we might have fallen into a slump, and see if there is a way to crawl out of it. Note: I may be writing this post to try and pull myself out…

;how to turn your baby into a bookworm
Alternatively titled; 12 Types Of Books To Get Babies Interested In Reading, which was kind of a mouthful, so I went with the first. Which sounds like a self-help post for mommy bookworms who don’t want to feel guilty for wanting to spend time with her books instead of her baby. No, I’m not projecting my issues, what do you mean? A N Y W H O. I’m one of the few Mommy Book Bloggers I know, but I feel like this is good if you’re baby-sitting, or something along those lines too. It’s never too early to get someone interested in reading. I’m going to be honest, I chose…

handle with care; the covers edition
“Never judge a book by its’ cover”? Psht, yeah. Like I’ve actually listened to that. When it comes to books, anyway. As I mentioned in the other half of my covers edition, the cover attracts me to the book. If you can’t attract me at first glance, then I’m not going to bother checking the synopsis. Shallow, yeah, but I’m not perfect. Just close to it. Sometimes the cover is intriguing. Not exactly pretty, but something about it is catching the eye. So I may have picked them up, liked the synopsis, and then kept the book. Sometimes an intriguing cover can let you down, though, so be careful! If…

;five romances for the big screen
When I realised today’s post was going to go live on Valentine’s Day, of course I decided I was writing about romances. Honestly, I read romances when I am in a bit of a reading slump. They’re almost always light and easy enough for me to enjoy and get back into reading. So I figured, let’s make a list of these fun romances I’ve read that I would love to see translated onto the big screen! In no particular order, here are some of the romances I have enjoyed so much that I would not mind seeing them made into movies. Which, coming from someone who is always critical of…

;the bullet journal life
In the last quarter of last year, I started getting into bullet journaling. A little late to the party, if you go by the multitude of blog posts and instagram photos already circulating the web, but still. At first, I was intimidated. The photos of the the spreads were organised and artistic and completely out of my ability to produce. Then I realised that the beauty of the bullet journal is that I get to choose how I want it to look. What I want to go into it. I have started and stopped planners so many times because it just never has what I need or want, but finally,…
