    SPOTLIGHT; #DesiRepDiscussions

    We interrupt our regular schedule to bring you this post. I spoke about it on Wednesday, but a little bit more in-depth today! #DesiRepDiscussions can be found on Pragati @ The InkedIn Book Blog and Aditi @ A Thousand Words A Million Books‘ blogs. It is a series of guest posts by desi book bloggers about representation – or the lack there of – of desis in mass Western media. They put it best: The purpose of this discussion event is to make others aware of the lush, beautiful desi culture and to tell them more about us. The movement in the online book community towards more diverse and #ownvoices…

    ;more desi mythology please

    I’ll be talking more about it in another post, but Pragati @ The InkedIn Book Blog and Aditi @ A Thousand Words A Million Books hosted a FABULOUS series of guest posts in January where they invited a number of desi bloggers to talk about the representation – or lack of – South Asians in media. If things had worked out for me, this would have been a part of #DesiRepDiscussions, but alas! I had had a medical emergency at the end of December and was unable to take part. Hopefully, this becomes a yearly thing? But I talked to Pragati about using the idea I had had in another…

  • Discussion Post,  Instant To-Read

    instant to-read; the covers edition

    I have never understood the phrase “Never judge a book by its’ cover”. I mean, sure, metaphorically, yeah. The prettiest person can hide the ugliest of souls and hearts. But when it comes to actual books? Sue me, I’m a shallow person. I’m going to pick up the pretty books.* *I literally pick them up off the shelf. Then I read the synopsis and make a decision. But the cover is the initial attraction, so I stand by my point. There have been a number of books over the years that I have read, or put on my TBR, just because of their cover. Some of them have been great.…

    unboxing; blu’s bookish bag, january 2018

    Bear with me please, I’ve never done one of these before. Unboxings have always fascinated me – and made me a little bit jealous. Because I’ve never been able to get over the almost exorbitant shipping prices to get bookish merch and boxes all the way over to Malaysia, I rarely buy things beyond books! And then. And then. This happened. I have always adored the designs on Blu Bear Bazaar. I treated myself to bookmarks from the store once, and bought my best friend a mug for her birthday. When I heard Molly was starting a box? Or rather, a bag? I gave in to the temptation and pre-ordered…

    ;ten things i have used as a bookmark

    …besides a bookmark, that is. There’s this post I’ve seen many times – on Tumblr, sometimes on Twitter, and I’ve had a friend send it to me over Whatsapp too, saying I’ve done them all – of unconventional things people have used as bookmarks. I’m pretty sure that post is supposed to be a joke. I’m also pretty sure that my friend is right and I’ve done them all. An old reciept. And when I say old, I mean it’s become faded and gone mostly blank. Ticket stubs. I collect them, mean to put them in a scrapbook, and wind up using them as bookmarks. Technically, scrapbooking? In a way?…

    the year of new beginnings;

    As I write this, it is the last few days of 2017, and I am excited for 2018. The year promises new things for me – my daughter will turn one, my blog will (hopefully) see more traffic as I post more often, and I will be launching my book-related business! Unfortunately, there has been a bit of a delay on the business front as not only has it been difficult to set up the page on my own, a lot has been going on on the personal front and an unexpected medical related emergency has set me back at least another week. So where I was hoping for a…

  • Yearly Wrap Up

    2017; it’s a wrap

    It’s the end of the year, and I have managed to post a discussion post every month! It may not seem like much, but after last year, this is quite the accomplishment for me. My traffic and stats might not be as impressive as other bloggers, but I have seen an improvement, and more importantly? I’ve made loads of good friends in the blogging community. (Where are my #CroneBloggers at?) Let’s see, I recieved my first few approvals for eARCs this year, but with things going the way they are with NetGalley and GoodReads for international bloggers, that may not happen again. Still, it was an honour and a privilege.…

    books & a cuppa;

    Most of us like to have a glass of something when we read. For me, usually, that glass of something is a hot drink. Coffee, tea, sometimes a chocolate drink, like a Nutella hot chocolate. I choose my drinks based on my moods, and more often than not, my moods are linked to the book I am reading. What I’m saying, of course, is that I categorise my drinks by the type of books I am reading. There are just certain stories and genres that pair well with certain drinks. Chocolate; Fantasy It can be anywhere between overly sweet and dark bitterness. For me, hot chocolate pairs well with a…

    SPOTLIGHT; #cronebloggers

    We interrupt our regular schedule to bring you this post. I’m going to be honest, I meant to write this post a while ago, but I’ve been out of town, and then the daughter was ill, so I’m only getting around it it now. For full information, check out Jenn @ a page of Jenniely‘s page on #CroneBloggers here. In brief, #CroneBloggers are a group of book bloggers that are older than the target audience for the Young Adult novels we read. Yes, anybody can read anything they want, etcetra etcetra, but being surrounded by young teenagers was – shall we say – making us feel our ages? So Jenn…

    ;reading starter kit

    I’ve been complaining to anyone who sits still long enough to listen that coming up with new and interesting blog posts ideas is so difficult. This has been largely due to the fact that I have been stuck trying to come up with something different and fun to post. A conversation with a new friend, one who is not an avid reader, but wants to get back into reading for fun, gave me this one. We were discussing something I’ve been planning (something she’s gotten excited about, and made me more excited to be doing!) when she suggested I put together a reading starter kit for her and others like…
