CONTENT CREATION 202: Compare Only To Yourself

An important thing about creating content is that your mindset is very important. You have to make sure you are in the right one when creating, even when you don’t feel it.

CONTENT CREATION 201: Believe In Your Message

There are a lot of things that I have learned over the years about creating content and putting myself out there. One of the things I still struggle with is comparisons. I look at the creators around me and think myself inadequate and pretending.
Imposter syndrome is very, very real.
The mindset of comparisons can be demoralising, leading us to getting stuck. Why should we try, we think, when we’re just not going to be as good? I say ‘we’, of course, because this is something I still do. This is a rut I still find myself stuck in.
It can be difficult, but I remind myself that instead, we should take inspiration from other creators. Aspire to be that confidant, to reach the level you think they are at.

Comparisons, when they are made, should be done not with others, but with your past content.
Take a look back at your work when you feel yourself wanting to compare yourself to others and despair. Instead, see how much you have grown, how much you have developed a style and a voice that is uniquely yours.
Your message is yours. Your creations are something no one else can make.
Maybe something similar has been created before, but that’s okay. You have done something that is yours, and that makes it amazing.

- Have you ever compared one of your first pieces of content with what you have created recently? How did it feel?
- Who is a creator you admire?
- Has this series of posts resonated with you in anyway?
Don’t forget, your creations can be made your way by no one else. So do not compare yourself to anyone. And who knows, maybe you’re someone’s inspiration.
