CONTENT CREATION INTERLUDE: Imposter Syndrome

The thing about creating is that no two people have the same approach to it. So sometimes, when you hear or read something that works for someone else, and it does not for you, it can be – discouraging, to say the least. Demoralising, even.

What happens when you find that people’s advice just does not work for you? You still struggle, you cannot fit into the molds of those that come before you.
Imposter syndrome. Possibly the bane of creators everywhere. It’s the feeling of inadequacy, of self-doubt and personal incompetence despite the proof that shows otherwise.
Just because you cannot see it in the moment of doubt doesn’t mean it’s not true. Look back at the things you’ve created and see your improvements. Make a list of things you’ve learned, a list of things that do not work for you – people’s advice are guidelines, not hard and fast rules on how to create.
Remembering that what works for others does not necessarily have to work for you can help.

I know I struggle with imposter syndrome. Constantly.
There are days where I look at the content I create and find myself comparing my work to other people’s. Days where I wonder if I should just give up on creating.
Having people in your corner who you can trust to remind you that your content has value helps. People you can trust to be blunt about it. To drag you – kicking and screaming, if they must – back to creating and out of your funk.
You may backslide, but, hey, that’s what cheat days are for.

There is no one and done for getting rid of imposter syndrome. You will have good days and bad days. That’s okay. Just remember to keep at it anyway.
You bring something no one else can to the table.
