TWISTED TALES; the princess and the pea
I have nothing to say but that they would make a gorgeous couple on screen, they are both stunning and I love them. Don’t mind my gushing please. Twisted Tales is a series of photosets depicting POC fancasts of fairytales that are traditionally cast as not-POC. Featuring: Grace Park as the Princess Kunal Kapoor as the Prince They could see she was a real Princess and no question about it, now that she had felt one pea all the way through twenty mattresses and twenty more feather beds. Nobody but a Princess could be so delicate. So the Prince made haste to marry her, because he knew he had found…

RACEBENT ROMCOMS; notting hill
I love that one quote in this movie, but I don’t remember if I’ve ever seen it… Racebent Romcoms has me taking existing Hollywood romantic comedies (and romances), and recasting them for the modern day with a more diverse cast. Featuring Hannah Simone as Anna Scott and Isaiah Mustafa as William Thacker. “After all, I’m just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her.”

recipe; snickerdoodles
I just realised, despite having made these so many times over the past six years, I’ve not posted this recipe anywhere. I have barely adapted this recipe, because like the author of the original recipe claims, this is The Best Snickerdoodle Cookie Recipe. (Not that I’ve had many snickerdoodles, but I love this, so.) The husband is not so fond of the cookies, so I don’t make them often anymore – we’re all trying to cut down on desserts, honestly, and this can be quite sweet. But when I want some soft and chewy cookies, these tend to be my go to. Snickerdoodles Ingredients 1/2 cup butter (1 stick), softened…

;how to make a TBR jar ft. I don’t remember the books I own
My TBR list is long and unmanageable and ever-growing. I know this is a problem most of us bookworms face, and no, I am not going to teach you how to manage your TBR. Because I don’t know how. (If someone can teach me, that’d be great. Thanks.) Instead, I’ve been recently thinking about making TBR jars. But the thing is, I don’t remember half my TBR list, and I definitely don’t remember the titles of the books I own off-hand. So you get something like this instead. In my last Open Pages box, I added in a itty-bitty little TBR jar. Found the jars at the local dollar shop…

TWISTED TALES; sleeping beauty
This was one of my favourite Disney cartoons growing up, so I’m sticking to the names given in the cartoon because the source material apparently didn’t give the characters names. Twisted Tales is a series of photosets depicting POC fancasts of fairytales that are traditionally cast as not-POC. Featuring: Priya Anand as Aurora Telly Leung as Phillip Zuleikha Robinson as Maleficent Then one day a prince was traveling through the land. An old man told him about the belief that there was a castle behind the thorn hedge, with a wonderfully beautiful princess asleep inside with all of her attendants. His grandfather had told him that many princes had tried…

review; the diviners
The Diviners by Libba Bray Evie O’Neill has been exiled from her boring old hometown and shipped off to the bustling streets of New York City – and she is pos-i-tute-ly ecstatic. It’s 1926, and New York is filled with speakeasies, Ziegfeld girls, and rakish pickpockets. The only catch is that she has to live with her uncle Will and his unhealthy obsession with the occult. Evie worries he’ll discover her darkest secret: a supernatural power that has only brought her trouble so far. But when the police find a murdered girl branded with a cryptic symbol and Will is called to the scene, Evie realizes her gift could help…

RACEBENT ROMCOMS; the proposal
I actually haven’t seen this movie in its’ entirety. I will. Eventually. Racebent Romcoms has me taking existing Hollywood romantic comedies (and romances), and recasting them for the modern day with a more diverse cast. Featuring Aisha Tyler as Margaret Tate and Manish Dayal as Andrew Paxton. “So, these are the questions that INS is gonna ask us. Now the good news is that I know everything about you, but the bad news is that you have 4 days to learn all this about me. So you should probably get studying.”

;series i haven’t finished (and don’t know why)
Hi, hello, and welcome to today’s edition of “Ara, What Are You Doing With Your Life And All Those Books.” Today, we will be talking about the book series I own and adore, and for some strange unquantifiable reason, have yet to complete! No, I’m serious. I don’t even know why I haven’t finished these series yet. I enjoy them, I want to finish them, I just haven’t yet? Someone help me? Part of me thinks that I haven’t finished these series’ yet because if I do, then that means they are actually over… Let us start with one that everyone has read and loved, and I scoured for the…

instant to-read; the austen edition
I’ve read maybe two or three books that can be classified as reimaginings of Austen novels. I’ve watched many more. And guess what? I’m a nerd who loves Jane Austen retellings! This comes as a big surprise to absolutely nobody ever. There are some really well-done webseries based on Austen’s works. Like, would 10/10 recommend to everybody. I mean, could they be more diverse? Sure! But they were faithful and well-acted adaptations, and I stan. I can’t say I’ve ever come across a book re-telling of Northanger Abbey – and I can’t say I’ve ever read the source material – but there have been two webseries based on it that…
