;series i haven’t finished (and don’t know why)
Hi, hello, and welcome to today’s edition of “Ara, What Are You Doing With Your Life And All Those Books.” Today, we will be talking about the book series I own and adore, and for some strange unquantifiable reason, have yet to complete! No, I’m serious. I don’t even know why I haven’t finished these series yet. I enjoy them, I want to finish them, I just haven’t yet? Someone help me? Part of me thinks that I haven’t finished these series’ yet because if I do, then that means they are actually over… Let us start with one that everyone has read and loved, and I scoured for the…

instant to-read; the austen edition
I’ve read maybe two or three books that can be classified as reimaginings of Austen novels. I’ve watched many more. And guess what? I’m a nerd who loves Jane Austen retellings! This comes as a big surprise to absolutely nobody ever. There are some really well-done webseries based on Austen’s works. Like, would 10/10 recommend to everybody. I mean, could they be more diverse? Sure! But they were faithful and well-acted adaptations, and I stan. I can’t say I’ve ever come across a book re-telling of Northanger Abbey – and I can’t say I’ve ever read the source material – but there have been two webseries based on it that…

TWISTED TALES; alice in wonderland
I am pretty certain people aren’t going to get my casting, especially since my Alice is much older than she is in the books. But the thought of Mindy as Alice! Headcanon that Naya as the Queen Of Hearts, who is gorgeous and immortal because she uses the hearts of her subjects to keep herself young. And can you see this Hatter and Alice playing off each other? Their energy would be off the charts! Twisted Tales is a series of photosets depicting POC fancasts of fairytales that are traditionally cast as not-POC. Featuring: Mindy Kaling as Alice Anthony Mackiet as the Mad Hatter Osric Chau as the White Rabbit…

review; sorceress
Sorceress by Claudia Gray To save the lives of countless people in Captive’s Sound, Nadia has sworn herself to the One Beneath, to black magic. Her plan, and the town’s only hope, is for Nadia to learn enough sorcery to strike back against the forces of darkness. But now that she’s separated from her friends, her family, and her Steadfast, Mateo, Nadia is more vulnerable than ever to darkness. And as the sorceress Elizabeth summons torrential rains and brings the One Beneath closer to the mortal world, Nadia is running out of time to stop her. The final battle lines are drawn, surprising alliances are made, and true love is…

review; crooked kingdom
Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo When you can’t beat the odds, change the game. Kaz Brekker and his crew have just pulled off a heist so daring even they didn’t think they’d survive. But instead of divvying up a fat reward, they’re right back to fighting for their lives. Double-crossed and badly weakened, the crew is low on resources, allies, and hope. As powerful forces from around the world descend on Ketterdam to root out the secrets of the dangerous drug known as jurda parem, old rivals and new enemies emerge to challenge Kaz’s cunning and test the team’s fragile loyalties. A war will be waged on the city’s dark and…

RACEBENT ROMCOMS; letters to juliet
This movie was adorable and I loved the story. But also, more representation please. Racebent Romcoms has me taking existing Hollywood romantic comedies (and romances), and recasting them for the modern day with a more diverse cast. Featuring Kaitlyn Leeb as Sophie Hall and Elliot Knight as Charlie Wyman. “”What” and “If” are two words as non-threatening as words can be. But put them together side-by-side and they have the power to haunt you for the rest of your life: What… if? What, if? What *if*…? I don’t know how your story ended, but if what you felt then was true love, then it’s never too late. If it was…

recipe; paneer & black bean “meat”balls
What do you do when you want a specific thing but can’t find a recipe for it anywhere? Why, you make up your own by mashing up a few others! The husband didn’t want TheFitFoodieMama’s Mushroom and Black Bean Meatless Meatballs we’d tried sometime last year but he did want some meatless meatballs, and he suggested using paneer to make them. Kofta recipes (which we searched) were very Indian and deep-fried, so I took TheFitFoodieMama’s recipe and adapted it slightly to make my very own meatless meatballs. I’ve only made them once so far, and genius that I am, I screwed up slightly which is why they look undercooked, but…

review; six of crows
Six Of Crows by Leigh Bardugo Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price – and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can’t pull it off alone… A convict with a thirst for revenge. ;my life in books
This is not a tag. I think there is a tag going around, or was, that is similar? Maybe I imagined it, but this is not a tag. Mostly because I fall behind on tags a lot, so I’m not going to pass this on to anyone to do it, but hey, if it gives anyone any blog post ideas? Have fun, because I certainly am! Basically, today’s post is me, breaking down my life into sections, and associating books or series with those sections of my life. It’s definitely making me think really hard about what I used to read, and how much my taste has changed, or not,…

TWISTED TALES; rapunzel
I realise there is actually the villain of the story – Mother Gothel, or the Enchantress, depending on your source material – but I couldn’t be bothered to cast her. I was far too enamoured by the couple. Twisted Tales is a series of photosets depicting POC fancasts of fairytales that are traditionally cast as not-POC. Featuring: Shay Mitchell as Rapunzel Michael B. Jordan as the Prince In her anger she clutched Rapunzel’s beautiful tresses, wrapped them twice round her left hand, seized a pair of scissors with the right, and snip, snap, they were cut off, and the lovely braids lay on the ground. And she was so pitiless…
