July Online Writing Events I’m Looking Forward To
A little bit early, but I’m hyping myself up for a few events that will be happening in the online space this July! These are writing events with an emphasis on community and encouragement, and I’ve had the privilege of taking part in them at least once each before. You can bet I’m taking these events as a way to hit targets I’m setting for myself, and find new writing friends! GWIC – or the Global Write In Crawl – will take place during the first weekend of July. Described as a “virtual event during which participants can visit the virtual writing spaces (Discord) of other regions, participate in writing…

AUTHOR AVENGERS; May Round Up
After a couple of months of struggling with the prompts – though I am proud of the fact that I managed to write them anyway – May brought about a prompt I was not just excited by, but also inspired by. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that I really wanted to try and write something that fell at least a little bit under the MerMay theme. I like to think I succeeded, but you can tell me better if I did or didn’t. This month’s prompt was chosen by Morris Wayts (via a writing prompt generator), and as this is going up on the blog early,…

The Importance Of Building A Habit
It’s been a little bit since I’ve had the chance – and inspiration – to write a blog post outside a review or prompt round up, so please bear with me. This is a little bit of a ramble, but I swear I have a point! I’ve written a number of blog posts – tips, tricks, things that work for me – on content creation. I wrote an entire series on it, in fact, and one thing that I keep coming back to is that what works for one person may not necessarily work for someone else. Take each piece of advice with a grain of salt – keep what…

AUTHOR AVENGERS; April Round Up
Another month, another prompt fill. The last few months have seen me struggling with the prompts – not because I don’t like them, because they have been so interesting! – but because the character voices have been eluding me. The first draft of this one, for example, was very much something I would never want to share. But edits turned it into something I’m okay with sharing, even if it’s not one of my favourite stories. It has, however, given me many world building ideas for Ajahta, and I look forward to expanding on that. This month’s prompt was ironically chosen by me! Be sure to check out the fills…

REVIEWS; Ms Marvel (Vol. 2, Vol. 3, Magnificent #13-18)
I’ve had the collected issue editions of the first of Kamala Khan’s run – Ms Marvel Volumes 2 and 3 – for a while now, but I finally sat down to read them recently. And clearly, I loved it enough to seek out issues from the Magnificent Ms Marvel run. You can say I’m a comics person now. I’m going to be finding more soon. I regret nothing. I’ve had a copy of this for a while, and I finally sat down to read it – and I flew through it. The colours, the characters, the fast-paced dialogue and snappy writing were so engaging and fun and dynamic. It really…

AUTHOR AVENGERS; March Round Up
The prompt for this month was chosen by Josh Edmunds – it was his birthday month this time around! – and it was admittedly another one I struggled with. I had some immediate thoughts when I saw it, but none that really clicked with me. Until I actually started writing, that is. The first draft and I were at odds, but draft two? That one clicked, and I found myself having fun with it. (And had some friends read it over which was really encouraging!) Everyone’s got such different approaches to the prompts, but we all adore sharing our work, so do check out all the prompts and leave some…

REVIEW; The Hunt And The Haunting
Title: The Hunt And The HauntingAuthor: Victoria Audley Genre: Gothic, horror.Type: E-bookPublisher: Victoria Audley Agnes Marchdale loved to tell fantastical stories. She never expected to find herself in one. Everything seems to be looking up for the Marchdale sisters after Marianne’s engagement to the rich and handsome Lord Blackett. But when a long-buried scandal rears its head and threatens to overturn everything, Agnes must determine where truth lies or risk greater danger than she ever imagined. The Hunt and the Haunting is a story about ghosts, both literal and metaphorical; a story about the stories we love, the stories we believe, and the stories that shape the world around us. This review is going to be…

AUTHOR AVENGERS; February Round Up
This month’s prompt was chosen by the ever so encouraging and wonderful Morris Wayts – it’s his birthday month! – and my first thought when I saw it was oh no. It seemed very out of my comfort zone, and I struggled with coming up with an idea for it. I was almost ready to throw in the towel before I had an idea that I wound up writing. So far, everybody has approached this in a different way, which I think is the fun of this exercise. Be sure to check out everybody’s pages and leave them a comment and some love! Title: No Other ChoiceAuthor: Leenie BrownGenre: Adult, regency romance, retellingType: E-bookPublisher: Leenie B Books At first, all he wanted was her forgiveness. Now, he wants her to be his countess. He insulted her before he had even met her. It was not purposefully done, of course, but it was done nonetheless. Now, after spending a great deal of time trying to make amends for his words, Lord Rycroft has done it again. But was he truly supposed to be pleased about being required to escort his mother and her latest matchmaking project from soiree to soiree during the season? He thought not. For her part, Mary Bennet is not eager to spend the season with…

AUTHOR AVENGERS; January Round Up
It seems apt that the first prompt of 2024 is one with such positive and hopeful undertones. Of course it doesn’t necessarily mean that every story to come out from it will have those same shades, but as a prompt, as a beginning, it has been very promising. I personally wound up enjoying this prompt – though it took me until the week leading up to my upload to write it. I revisited an earlier location, and I think it is safe to say now that I can confirm all these prompt fills of mine are from the same universe. So if and when I ever compile them into an…
