2026 is off to a start, isn’t it? I can’t say much about the state of the world, or what will come, but on a writing front, our little server is going strong. It’s the end of the year, and while I’m pretty sure we’ll be continuing on with the tradition of prompt stories next year – this makes, what? 2 and a half years of prompts? I can’t quite believe it, but it has been so much fun. How I Keep To My Posting Schedule
It’s been a few years of consistently having a few platforms. They’ve changed in appearance, in name – this year’s username change was a long time in the making! – but I have been managing to keep at it. It took me a while to get into a groove with keeping to a schedule, and I struggled at first, taking on more than I could manage – does anyone else remember the attempt to post on YouTube and Instagram weekly? November has come to a close. With it, 2025 is coming to a close too. It’s been quite the year. If you’ve been following along on this page (and my newsletter), you’ll know just how much of a year it’s been. But writing has been happening, my daily streak has been going strong, and I haven’t missed a prompt story yet! This month’s prompt was a song suggested by me! OHHOW And The Joys Of Writing Streams
Last weekend, I took part in a writing event on Twitch after almost a year. OHHOW, or One Hundred Hours Of Writing, is a streaming event aiming to connect writers all over the world and encourage them to work on their projects – or anything, really – with the online community cheering them on. They track words, minutes, and turn what can be an isolating hobby or career into something fun and even competitive at times. It’s officially more than two years since we started these prompts. It’s allowed me to try so many new genres and styles of storytelling across a span of so many different sorts of prompts. This month’s prompt was set by Ash and I’ll be honest, I almost went for something extremely tragic based on my religious history. I’ve been doing a bit of reading and learning again on the history of my ancestors and the prompt is perfect for that. I recently started playing FFXIV so when Lou suggested the prompt for this month, it didn’t take me very long before I decided what my story was going to be – a sort of pre-canon of why my player character decided to set out from home to the main cities in the first place, but also just fleshing out her family a little bit. I had fun writing it, even if it doesn’t hit all the beats of the prompt. Games seems to be the vibe though, and I know I’m not the only one who leaned that way.
