AUTHOR AVENGERS; March Round Up
This month’s prompt was given to us by Josh – it’s his birthday month! – and it was definitely a fun one though I didn’t end up going the direction I originally planned to. (If you’ve been reading along, you know we’ve had losses in the family, and this month’s prompt turned from an exploration of monsters to an exploration of grief. Writing has been helping me process and handle things to some extent and I hope that resonates.) AUTHOR AVENGERS; February Round Up
(Prefacing this with: I’m writing this round up post very early because I will be out of town for a couple of weeks up until this needs to go up and I won’t have my laptop.) This prompt was given by Morris, and I immediately had ideas on what I wanted to write. I spent the end of January around the larger part of my community and we were listening to a lot of old religious and historical tales. It seemed apt then to use one of those mentioned in a short story! Of course, this ended up only looking at the first half of the prompt, grabbing the vibe and running with…

NEWSLETTER SNIPPETS; Issue #2
The second issue of the newsletter went out on New Year’s Eve – yes, over a month ago! – and, well, looking back at not just the last quarter of 2024 but the whole of it makes me pretty happy, really. On a creative level, I think I was pretty consistently productive. 208,081 new words last year, not counting blog posts, reviews and newsletters, which as a whole? Pretty good, if I say so myself. You can sign up here! I read more in November and December than I have in the rest of the year combined! I fell deeply into the cozy fantasy side of things in November after…

AUTHOR AVENGERS; January Round Up
It is 2025 – Happy Lunar New Year, guys! – and we’re continuing with the prompts! This first one was provided by L’poni Baldwin and we spent a bit spitballing ideas in the Discord, which was a lot of fun. I mean, dragons, right? You can’t really go wrong with dragons. (Okay, I mean you can, but you can always have fun with it.) Coming up with this concept took a bit, but in the end, I loved working on this story. Though I will say formatting it was a PAIN. I think it was worth it, but you tell me! INDEX:Aradhna Kaur (me!) – Science, Scales And Smoke As per…

AUTHOR AVENGERS; December Round Up
It seems apt that the absolute last prompt of the year is about holidays. I mean, ‘tis the season and all that, right? So of course when Kelsey suggested it, we all agreed! No limits as to which holiday we could right about, which for me meant bringing in one of my favourite occasions. Of course, whether or not it fit the brief is anyone’s prerogative! (In hindsight, the new novella I started recently also fits the prompt… Whole different tone to the short story I wrote, however! But I’m as excited to write it as I have been to share the prompt fill.) I hope you have enjoyed all the prompt…

AUTHOR AVENGERS; November Round Up
Another new prompt for another month, this one chosen by Josh. He suggested putting music on shuffle, and we told him to go for it. It’s always been something I enjoy doing, writing to music, so I was more than excited. The song was new music for me, but it did inspire something. Whether or not it matches the title and lyrics didn’t matter to me as much as the vibes, which I like to think I got. INDEX:Aradhna Kaur (me!) – Twisted Echoes As per usual, any prompt fills going up after today will be added in to the post later! If you like my content, consider leaving me a tip on Ko-fi!

AUTHOR AVENGERS; October Round Up
I wasn’t entirely sure I was going to have my story for the month ready on time. The prompt – chosen by Josh‘s partner this time – was a fascinating one but I struggled to come up with an idea. And I’m not entirely sure I hit the brief – plus this was a pretty depressing one, I’ll admit – but I did love the story I wound up writing. Freedom is such an interesting concept to play with when given free reign, and the characters you already have don’t have a backstory yet. Let me know if you think this was true to our prompt! NEWSLETTER SNIPPETS; Issue #1
To paraphrase Jane Austen, it is a truth universally acknowledged that a writer in want of engagement must put herself on multiple platforms. Or at least, that’s what I’m telling myself. My first newsletter went out at the end of September. I’m still figuring out what I’ll be putting on there, what the layout will look like – I’ve already made some changes since the first issue went out – but a few things I know for sure: You can sign up here! Reading is one thing I talk about here, so you’re mostly up to date with what I’ve finished this year. I also found an audiobook of Howl’s Moving…

AUTHOR AVENGERS; September Round Up
This month’s prompt was something different – a little longer than could fit on my graphic too! – but so much fun. Chosen by L’poni Baldwin, the full prompt included a video to give more inspiration. What would your character do if they could flee to any world in their universe? Would they make it their new vacation home? Try to take over? The decision and story can be based around their motivation. Perhaps your characters need a vacation. Or Your character is thrown into the worst possibly world in their universe. Is it a planet of eldritch creatures? A planet full of natural disasters where only perseverance can help…

AUTHOR AVENGERS; August Round Up
We really did decide to switch things up for the new year of prompts. And I couldn’t be more excited about it! This time around Hannah Joy suggested interviewing our OCs, and of course we’ve all got different approaches to it. I think they speak for themselves, really. I don’t explicitly mention it in the story, but in my mind, this was absolutely connected to a previous short story in this series. Can you guess which?
