SPOTLIGHT; Mylee J. Miller in an Interview with the Author

I had the absolute pleasure of reading an ARC of Mylee J. Miller’s debut novel Of Cold, Silver Storms last year. The full review – which you can read after the interview with the author – has been sitting in my GDocs for a while because I wanted to post it closer to the release date. Suffice to say though, I thoroughly enjoyed it and am impatiently waiting for the sequel. Mylee sat through my screaming at her over Discord and I regret nothing. Tell us a bit about yourself. Where to start? I’m a multi-genre writer who has aspirations to become a hybrid author (aka indie and traditionally published).…

SPOTLIGHT; M.A. Vice in an Interview with the Author

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these types of posts. But when I found out The Impavidus Cycle was getting new paperbacks, I jumped on the chance to be a part of the cover reveal. They were posted everywhere on the 14th – I even changed up my bookstagram upload schedule for this and I regret nothing – and then I thought, hey, you know what? I’m going to ask Meg a few questions as well if she is up for it. She was, and I am so grateful to her for the chance of not just sharing the new covers – aren’t they gorgeous? – but…

SPOTLIGHT; 2019 Book Blog Discussion Challenge

We interrupt our regular schedule to bring you this post. A second reading challenge this year? Who even am I? But then again, this challenge is another year long challenge with targets I could possibly reach, so, here I am. Signing up for another thing. Hoping I do not buckle under the weight of my own expectations.* *I have also very loosely signed up for Olivia @ Olivia’s Catastrophe’s readathon, and I might not stick to her dates because I’m busy those weeks, but I’m going to try and read books in those prompts over the course of the year. Again, I ask, who am I? WHAT AM I DOING?…

    SPOTLIGHT; #YARC2019

We interrupt our regular schedule to bring you this post. I usually keep myself from taking part in reading challenges. I can never keep up, I go into reading slumps, things just spiral out of control and I find myself disheartened and stressed and anxious for failing at them. But this one. THIS ONE. You guys, it speaks to my soul. A challenge, for reading Asian-inspired novels? By Asian authors? It’s like a challenge specifically created for me. On top of that, there are levels of targets to hit, so obviously I’ve signed up for the lowest. If I read more than that, great! If not, well, that’s okay too.…

    SPOTLIGHT; time to educate yourselves

We interrupt our regular schedule to bring you this post. This is not my usual type of SPOTLIGHT posts. Not even close. But I am tired, you guys. I am so tired. How many times do we – readers of colour – have to remind other readers that you can educate yourselves? How many times do we have to inform you about things you feel entitled to knowing by, what? Reading a book by an author of colour? How many times do we have to point out that authors of colour aren’t there to educate you, but to tell stories? Sometimes those stories include a little bit of the things…

    SPOTLIGHT; #CroneBookClub

We interrupt our regular schedule to bring you this post. That is right! The #CroneBloggers have an on-going book club! If you follow Jenn @ A Page Of Jenniely (and guys, you really should, she’s amazing), you might have seen her blog post about this. But to recap: Every 6 weeks, the book that we are reading for a month together will be announced Each book will be announced 2 weeks before we plan to start reading. While we read, the discord chat will be very active. At the end of the month, we will be holding a Twitter chat WITH THE AUTHOR where you can ask them questions and…

    SPOTLIGHT; #DesiRepDiscussions

We interrupt our regular schedule to bring you this post. I spoke about it on Wednesday, but a little bit more in-depth today! #DesiRepDiscussions can be found on Pragati @ The InkedIn Book Blog and Aditi @ A Thousand Words A Million Books‘ blogs. It is a series of guest posts by desi book bloggers about representation – or the lack there of – of desis in mass Western media. They put it best: The purpose of this discussion event is to make others aware of the lush, beautiful desi culture and to tell them more about us. The movement in the online book community towards more diverse and #ownvoices…

    SPOTLIGHT; #cronebloggers

We interrupt our regular schedule to bring you this post. I’m going to be honest, I meant to write this post a while ago, but I’ve been out of town, and then the daughter was ill, so I’m only getting around it it now. For full information, check out Jenn @ a page of Jenniely‘s page on #CroneBloggers here. In brief, #CroneBloggers are a group of book bloggers that are older than the target audience for the Young Adult novels we read. Yes, anybody can read anything they want, etcetra etcetra, but being surrounded by young teenagers was – shall we say – making us feel our ages? So Jenn…

    SPOTLIGHT; hashtag bookstagram challenges

We interrupt our regular schedule to bring you this post. I recently got back into bookstagram. I have been trying to keep to a schedule (Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday posts, which are a lot less than other bookstagram accounts) but things have been going a bit haywire since I came across the challenges people post. Challenges when it comes to bookstagram are not so much competitions. They are more goals for the month. I was confused the first time I came across the term before I realised that it was much like the memes over on tumblr. Last month, a couple of the bookstagram accounts I follow were hosting a…

SPOTLIGHT; food for thought & the Young Adult genre

We interrupt our regular schedule to bring you this post. A friend recently linked me to this article, and I’ve had it open on my phone for a while. Just to go back to and read because the first time I read it, I realised something – I agree with most of these points. I mean, I love YA books. I pretty much only read YA books. Almost all the reviews on this blog are of YA books. But when I look at the audience reading these books, we are (almost) all in our twenties or older. Or in our late teens. We read these books for escapism, for the…
