    Feel Good; The Hallmark Way

And I thought I had been doing so well too. I suppose that tells me not to pat myself on the back too quickly, huh? My impromptu two week break started because of what will go down as one of the worst weeks of my life. Testing positive for Covid, only for my youngest to fall sick while I was in isolation? Horrible feeling, unable to care for her, unable to go with her to the hospital. On top of that, the same day she was hospitalised, my grandfather passed. Yeah, horrible week, really. But things are looking up. My grandfather was not well for a long time, and he’s…

    #goodreadance2020; how did i do?

September has come to an end, and with it, the official #GoodReadance2020 as hosted by Shealea @ Shut Up, Shealea comes to a close as well. If you’ve seen my BookTube video, you would know that this was an initiative that really excited me, because I’ve been wanting to reorganise my Goodreads, and even the shelf I use for my BookTube filming. However, around mid-September, I wondered if I would even be able to cross off more than one thing on my short goal list. Let’s see how I did with each individual goal! Go through my TBR.I didn’t go through the ‘Want To Read’ shelf at first, instead going…

sarc2020 starter kit; where you could begin

A while back, I realised I was not reading as many South Asian stories as I would have liked. Maybe because growing up I couldn’t get my hands on many. The shelves of bookstores and libraries near me were filled with internationally published books – and almost all of them were white. So it was a nice change when more South Asian stories started to be published in the ‘mainstream’. The first time I read a story that mentioned a myth I grew up hearing – the book was Roshani Chokshi’s The Star-Touched Queen and the myth was the story of Harnakash and his son Prahlad – I had to…

;five asian booktubers you should subscribe to

I realised a couple of days ago that I don’t actually follow that many Asian BookTubers, and this is a shame that I intend to correct. In the meantime! There are a few BookTubers of Asian descent that I adore, and a few that I think are of Asian descent* and please give them all some love. *If I’m wrong, please let me know! I found Saajid @ Books Are My Social Life via another BookTuber and honestly, he is so great and fun to follow. He is so honest and frank about his views, and so entertaining to watch! Highly, highly recommend his videos to everyone. Jules @ InconsistentlyJules…

    ;something wicked this way come

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Or almost Halloween, anyway. I don’t read horror books, so I could not think of what would be appropriate for this week’s blog post until I stumbled onto a genius idea. I think it’s genius, anyway. Who wants a list of the scariest villains I’ve come across in literature so far*? *This list may contain spoilers for some series, so proceed with caution! Dolores Jane Umbridge.Say what else you will about the Harry Potter series, she was one of the most chilling villains I have ever come across because it is so plausible for her to exist in the real world. Take away the magic, and she’s still…

;five asian bookstagrammers you should follow (part 2)

I was having some issues with WordPress for a few days – I could not create content or even access the ‘new blog post’ page! But things are working now, cross your fingers they keep working, and I am back! With a few more of my favourite Asian bookstagrammers for you to follow*! *If you are not on this list, it’s not that I don’t love you, because I do! I just want to keep with the number five. I’ve been following Lyza from @lyzabethsay for ages, and every theme she switches up to has always been so good. Have you seen Fanna’s, @fannatality, feed? Can we say GOALS? Honestly,…

;the hero’s journey vs. the heroine’s journey

A few years ago, I did my Masters in Creative Writing, and as part of it, had to break down the tropes and pitfalls present in the fantasy genre – the genre I was writing in – for it. I never thought of presenting that on the blog, but a while back, I was thinking on it again. And I thought, why not? Did you know that there is a difference between the Hero’s journey and the Heroine’s journey? Until I started this research, I sure didn’t! The traditional Hero’s Journey is when the (generally) male protagonist is called upon to act in a secondary world, usually of strange powers…

;five asian 2020 debuts to look forward to

I’ve barely read all the 2019 books I want to read, and even some of the 2018 books I’ve had on my TBR, but I’m already looking at 2020 and eagerly anticipating so many books. These are only some of the books I cannot wait for, my full list is extensive and I won’t be posting that anywhere to keep my stress levels a little low*. *Though, my stress levels are never low. What I know of these following books comes from Goodreads mostly, but they sound right up my alley, so you know I’m excited! I am usually not a huge fan of Romeo & Juliet retellings, but These…

    ;movies i thought i imagined

I was recently thinking about movies I used to watch as a kid. This was prompted by a BookTube video I filmed talking about books I read as a kid and I realised because I hadn’t seen anyone else talking about a book series and I couldn’t find my copy, I started doubting whether or not it actually existed. Maybe I had imagined reading the whole thing? Then I found my copies of the books and was very relieved, but it did get me thinking about a few movies I vaguely remember watching when I was younger but never saw anyone else talking about.* *I checked IMDB and all these…

;five asian bookstagrammers you should follow

I haven’t been as active on Bookstagram as I would like to be. I’ve been posting! Almost daily for a week! But commenting on other people’s posts? I’ve been very lax on that, and I apologise. Still! There are a number of AMAZING Bookstagram accounts I follow, and today, I would like to take the opportunity to gush about a few. Let’s start with Charvi, @not.just.fiction, whose feed is bright and fun and so well planned and executed? I’m in awe. Charvi has recently alternated bookstagram photos with book tweets, and it makes for a very fun theme. Kae, @theportablemagik, is a recent find, and I think a newer Bookstagram?…
